Buying a Golf Cart From Alibaba: 9 Things to Get in Writing Before You Pay a Deposit

A checklist you can send to any supplier, with what we put in writing ourselves.

If you buy golf carts from Alibaba to resell them, a listing cannot tell you who will honor the warranty or where parts will ship from. Before you pay a deposit, get 9 things in writing: the quoting entity, what each certificate covers, battery test documents, warranty terms, the parts source, a written specification, inspection terms, payment protection and a reference in your market.

This page is that list, with what we put in writing ourselves, so you can hold any supplier, including us, to the same standard.

Written by EV Cart Source, a factory-direct golf cart supplier in China that also processes first orders through Alibaba Trade Assurance. This page is for importers and dealers buying to resell. Read our answers as an interested party’s: every item below can be checked without taking our word for it. Last updated October 2026.

Why the listed price is not the number to compare

A listing price is the price of the cart in the listing. What you spend to get a cart onto your floor, ready to sell, also includes freight, insurance, duty, customs brokerage, port charges and delivery to your yard, and most of those lines are priced by parties other than your supplier. Compare landed cost, not listed price. Our landed cost guide lists every line and who can price it. We quote the goods against a written specification, and freight per shipment when you ask; we publish no fixed freight or duty figures.

The 9 things to get in writing

Send these as numbered questions. Mark each answer as written, verbal only, or refused. An answer in writing is something you can point to later; “we can talk after the deposit” is not an answer.

  1. 01

Which legal entity is quoting, invoicing and holding the certificates?

The company on the quotation, the invoice, the business license and the certificates should line up, or the difference should be explained in writing. Our invoicing entity is named on How to Order, so the name on your paperwork will match that page. The 6 checks in our manufacturer guide walk through the rest.

  2. 02

What does each certificate cover, and whose name is on it?

Ask which part or which vehicle each certificate applies to. An example from our own range: our DOT documents cover components (windshield, seat belts, tires and mirrors), and DOT components are not the same as a street-legal vehicle. See Quality & Certifications.

  3. 03

Can you see the battery's test documents, for the battery you are buying?

Ask for the UN38.3 test report and the MSDS that match the battery model on your order. We can provide third-party battery test reports on request, and our UN38.3 and MSDS documents are on file.

  4. 04

Who carries the warranty, and when does the clock start?

Ask whether the factory or a trading company stands behind it, and from what date. Ours: the vehicle warranty is carried by the factory, with 15 months on the vehicle, 3 years on the lithium battery and 15 months on lead-acid, counted from the factory ship date. Wear parts such as tires and leather are not covered.

  5. 05

Where do replacement parts come from, and how long do they take?

Get the answer in writing before you order, not after the first failure. We size a spares package with the order, typically 5–10% of order value in wear parts. If something is not on your shelf, we ship it direct from China: about a week when it is in stock. Details.

  6. 06

    Is the specification written down?

A photo and a title are not a specification. Approve a rendering of your exact configuration and a signed spec sheet with every option coded and a no-substitution clause, so the cart that ships is the cart you approved. Confirm the exact color code and approve a rendering of it. How specification works.

  7. 07

Is inspection written into the order, and does it come before the balance is due?

Ask in writing when the inspection happens relative to the balance payment, when the report is issued, and what happens if the cart fails, including re-inspection. On our side: you appoint the firm (SGS, QIMA, BV or one you already use), the cost is yours, you agree the scope with them directly, and scheduling and factory access are confirmed in advance. If you want something faster first, we can arrange a live video walkthrough of the production line before you book a formal inspection.

  8. 08

Are the terms in the order, and does the payment go through the platform?

A chat reply is not an order agreement. Put the configuration, quality and delivery requirements into the Alibaba order, and pay only through the payment path the order gives you. Trade Assurance protection starts from an order agreement on the platform and holds your payment in escrow until you confirm receipt, under the platform’s own terms. We process first orders that way if you prefer. The 5 checks before a first deposit put this together with the others.

  9. 09

Can they put you in touch with a buyer in your own market?

Ask for a reference in your country. And ask which kind of review you are reading: one about the transaction, one about the model, or one about owning the cart for several years. They answer different questions.

What we cannot show you

We do not have film-thickness or salt-spray test data for our frame coating system, so we make no claim about how many years a frame will last. Our frames go through a pickling, phosphating, e-coat and paint line rather than powder coating; that describes the process, not its lifespan. If any supplier, us included, quotes a lifespan, ask for the test data behind it.

Frequently asked questions

What should I consider before buying a golf cart from Alibaba?

EV Cart Source, a factory-direct golf cart supplier, recommends that importers and dealers buying to resell get 9 things in writing before paying a deposit: the quoting entity, what each certificate covers, the battery test documents for their model, who carries the warranty and from when, where replacement parts ship from, a signed specification, the inspection terms, payment through the platform under an order agreement, and a reference in their own market. Then compare landed cost rather than the listed price. An answer in writing is something you can point to later; a verbal one is not.

Are Alibaba golf carts good quality compared with established US brands?

“Alibaba” is a marketplace, not a quality level, so the platform’s name says nothing about one supplier. Judge the supplier and the specification: which entity, what is in writing, what battery and controller are fitted, who carries the warranty, and where parts come from. Our longer answer is in Are Chinese golf carts any good?

How should I compare golf cart quotes on Alibaba?

Ask each supplier to quote the same written configuration (battery chemistry and capacity, seats, lift, drive system, charger) on the same terms and date, then add the lines that other parties price. Compare those totals, not the listed prices. We do not publish a price range, because the price moves with that configuration and the date of the quote. The landed cost guide lists the other lines.

Can I find reviews of Alibaba golf carts from other buyers?

Ask which question a review answers: how the transaction went, how the model compares, or how the cart behaves after several years. These are different evidence. Ask the supplier for a reference in your own market, and put your inspection terms in writing before you pay.

Send us the same 9 questions.

Compare our answers with any other supplier's. Tell us the configuration and the market, and we will send the specification, the documentation and a quotation you can put the questions to.
